How many days are between two dates?

The default result counts the calendar-day boundaries between the start date and end date. That means the same date to the same date is 0 days. Turn on Include the end date when both endpoints should count.

Worked example

August 1 to August 31

With the end date excluded, the gap is 30 days. If both August 1 and August 31 must count, enable inclusive end-date counting and the result becomes 31 days.

exclusive gap + 1 = inclusive day count

Calendar span versus total days

The result shows both a total day count and a calendar-style years, months, and days span. These answer slightly different questions. Total days is best for deadlines and elapsed duration; calendar parts are easier to read for longer spans.

Leap years and daylight saving time

The calculator compares date-only values in UTC, so daylight saving changes do not create 23-hour or 25-hour calendar days. Leap days are counted when they fall inside the selected range.

Common questions

Does the calculator count the start date?

The elapsed gap starts at the start date and measures to the end date. For a human counting rule that includes both endpoints, turn on Include the end date.

What if the end date is earlier?

By default the calculator shows the absolute distance. Turn on the signed-difference option if you want the result to stay negative when the end date is earlier.

Can I count only workdays?

Use the Business Days Calculator when weekends or custom closure dates should be excluded.
