Does the calculator handle overnight time?

Yes. When the end time is earlier than the start time, the end is treated as occurring the following day.

What if the start and end time are the same?

The result is zero elapsed time. The calculator does not assume that matching clock times mean a full 24 hours.

Can I subtract a break?

Yes. Enter break minutes and they are subtracted from the elapsed duration. The break must be shorter than or equal to the elapsed interval.

Before you use the duration

Check the source times, break treatment, and overnight assumption. If the shift lasted more than 24 hours, record actual dates instead of relying on the next-day shortcut. Keep the hours-and-minutes result for human review and use decimal hours only when another system requires that format.

When seconds are available, keep them through the calculation and round only at the final step required by the receiving system. A schedule estimate should also stay labeled as an estimate until it is compared with actual punches.
